According to the UN, only 9% of 8.3 billion tons of plastic waste have been recycled over the past 65 years. This is due to the low efficiency of catalysts in recycling and high costs of recycling facilities.
For companies struggling to recycle their waste, Plastalyst recycles the most difficult-to-recycle wastes into chemicals such as monomers, hydrogen, carbon monoxide and methanol. AC Biode is a deeptech startup based in Keihanna Plaza founded in 2019. At the large laboratory new methods of chemical recycling are being developed for customers such as Bosch, Toyota/Toyopet or Daikyo Nishikawa.

AC Biode´s technology is called Plastalyst. It breaks down the most difficult-to-recycle waste at 200°C, produces no CO2 and only uses water as a solvent. With this we are solving sevevral problems: Waste that cannot be recycled. GHG emissions from current waste processing, recovery of high-value materials such as rare earth metals, and most importantly recycling replaces the need for petrochemicals.

Plastalyst if the vision of a future without waste, that is becoming reality. Already we can recycle almost any kind of mixed organic waste on a small scale. Now we are building the commercial plant in Japan. Next year we are raising series A to faster. Waste is a trillion dollar untapped market.
